The latest tablet on offer to tech consumers is Google's upgraded Nexus 7, unveiled by the company in California on Wednesday.

The screen size is the same size as the earlier Nexus 7 at 1920x1200 but the pixels per inch have been boosted from 216 to 323, making it the highest resolution tablet on the market.

It's also lighter than its predecessor, at 299g, and 2mm slimmer.

The tablet features like wireless charging and 4G connectivity, 2GB of memory, dual stereo speakers and will run on the new Android Jelly Bean 4.3, which include parental controls on the kind of content their kids can access.

Users will also enjoy their device for longer, with the battery life extended to around 10 hours for web browsing, around an hour more than the previous model.

The sleeker device goes on sale in the US next Tuesday and it is likely to be out in the UK by Christmas for a similar price to the first model, which retails for £159.

According to CNN, video-streaming company Netflix's new Android app will allow Nexus 7 users to stream movies at 1080p.

The new Asus-built Nexus 7 was unveiled by Hugo Barra, vice president Android production management at Google, in San Francisco on Wednesday.
