"The Good Wife" season 6 finale finally had Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) and Kalinda Sharma (Archie Panjabi) in the same scene together, but this turned out to be a CGI-edit. Series creators Robert and Michelle King recently sat down with TVLine to address the "Kalicia-gate" controversy.
Margulies and Panjabi haven't shared a scene together for the past three seasons, with all of their interactions depicted via phone calls. No official statement from either parties have been given to clear up why the two actresses refuse to work with each other and apparently, their feud had gone on to the season 6 finale.
Instead of the two shooting the scene together, which was meant to be Panjabi's exit from the series, they shot the scene individually with doubles and sequences were later CGI-edited to make it look like they were together.
"I would say... that was not the intent. The story of Alicia and Kalinda seemed to be a story about pride getting in the way of friendship," responded Robert King when asked how they would reply to fans who felt duped by the trickery.
Michelle added, "We are certainly never ever hoping to hurt the fans' feelings or make them feel like that trust has been broken. But we're making the show every day using tricks, like if you're in a car and there's green screen and it looks like Chicago out the window but that's not exactly where we are. That's an everyday, run-of-the-mill thing on the show."
Fans aren't satisfied however, as comments for the interview showcase that while using a green screen to fake locales, driving sequences, and special effects are common in Hollywood shows and movies, using "movie magic" because two actresses apparently do not want to film a single scene together can be considered as going overboard.
"The Good Wife" will return for season 7, sans Archie Panjabi, on Oct. 4.
