George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin news: Had to 'wait 28 minutes' before she said yes

Actor George Clooney said that he never gave his wife Amal Alamuddin any hints that he was going to propose to her.

In an interview with Charlie Rose on "CBS This Morning" which aired on Tuesday, May 19, the 53-year old actor said that he "dropped" a proposal on the 37-year old human rights lawyer. Clooney said that the proposal happened quickly and that he knew that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Amal.

The actor added, "When I asked her…we had never talked about it…there wasn't like, 'Hey, maybe we should get married.' I literally dropped it on her."

Clooney said that the proposal took place at his home in Studio City, California and playing in the background were songs sung by his aunt Rosemary Clooney. After he proposed, the actor said that Amal appeared to be stunned and just kept on saying "Oh my God" and "Wow."

"Finally, I just said, 'Listen.' You know, I'm 53, at the time, or 52, I think at the time, and I said, 'You know, I've been on my knee now for about 28 minutes. So I gotta get an answer out of this, 'cause I'm gonna throw a hip out," Clooney said.

The couple wed in a glamorous ceremony in September 2014 in Venice, Italy. Among those who attended the wedding were Clooney's celebrity friends including Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, Emily Blunt, and Matt Damon.

Married life appears to agree with the once-dubbed Hollywood's eternal bachelor as Clooney is obviously smitten with his wife.

"I have someone who I can talk to about anything and someone who I care more about than I've cared about anybody," he said.

He also revealed that they don't spend more than one week apart. As for having children, the "Tomorrowland" actor said that although he has thought about it, it's not a priority for them right now.

"I don't really [think about it]," he told Rose. "I mean, I've thought about it, I suppose, but it hasn't been high on my list."
