AMC revealed a short fifteen-second teaser trailer for the companion series to "The Walking Dead," recently titled "Fear the Walking Dead," during the former's season 5 finale. While short, the footage does confirm several speculations and rumors about the show's premise.
According to a previous report, series creator Robert Kirkman confirmed during the South by Southwest panel that "Fear the Walking Dead" would start as a prequel but then eventually catch up to the current timeline of the main series.
The new trailer reveals just how far back the series will take its viewers.
During the brief footage, a voice clip, most likely a radio news reporter, states, "Reports in five states said a strange virus is going around, so if you're not feeling well, go home and take care of yourselves."
Right after this, the footage gives a quick glimpse at what appears to be a zombie in a tunnel.
This will be the first time that the actual zombie outbreak will be explored in the world of "The Walking Dead." In the flagship series, main protagonist Rick Grimes wakes up from a coma to discover the world already in ruins. "Fear" will show how the world gets overrun during the early days of the outbreak.
"Fear of the Walking Dead" will primarily focus on four characters: Cliff Curtis who plays Sean, a teacher who has shared custody over his son with his ex-wife; Kim Dickens as Nancy, a guidance counselor and Cliff's romantic interest; and both Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam Carey as Nancy's children.
Executive producers Greg Nicotero, Dave Alpert, and Gale Anne return, with Adam Davidson directing the pilot episode.
"Fear the Walking Dead" is set to air this summer with six episodes, although no specific date has yet been announced. AMC did announce that they had already green lit the show for at least two seasons.
