FX has already announced that "Fargo" has been renewed for season 3, but fans of the show are looking forward to knowing the plot of the upcoming season.

During the network's Emmy campaign for the critically acclaimed series, showrunner Noah Hawley revealed that the third season of "Fargo" will connect the plots of the show's first two seasons.

"I think that the fun is that these things connect," Hawley teased during an interview, via Gold Derby. "They connect sometimes in very important, literal ways, like season 2 being backstory for season 1, or Oliver Platt finding the money from the movie."

The showrunner further explained that the connection between the three seasons could be indirect to make it more interesting. He cited Zahn McClarnon's character Hanzee Dent as an example. Hanzee used to be Dodd Gerhardt's (Jeffrey Donovan) henchman, until he decided to betray the Gerhardt family and began his own crime empire in season 2. But fans will realize that Hanzee turned out to be the mob boss named Moses Tripoli that Sam Hess worked for in season 1.

Meanwhile, FX chief John Landgraf revealed early this year that one of the characters from the previous seasons is coming back in season 3.

"As far as I know, there is one [character returning]," Landgraf stated during the Television Critics Association press tour in January, as reported by Entertainment Weekly. However, he refused to mention who that character will be.

"That doesn't mean [Hawley] might not change his mind and there might not be more," the network executive added.

Some of the actors were present during the Emmy campaign night held in early April, including Patrick Wilson, Ted Danson, Jean Smart, Bokeem Woodbine, and Cristin Milioti. But none of them confirmed their possible return for "Fargo" season 3, which is expected to come out sometime in 2017.
