Bethesda's free-to-play mobile simulation video game "Fallout Shelter" is set to be released for Android-powered devices.
The post-nuclear strategy and simulation game was released for iOS devices on June 12, but those who are using the Android mobile operating system had to wait for further announcements before they could enjoy the highly anticipated game. And that announcement came on Friday at the QuakeCon event.
Bethesda Game Studio's game director and executive producer Todd Howard announced that the Android version of "Fallout Shelter" will be released for free on Google Play for all kinds of Android devices starting Aug. 13, almost two months after the iOS-compatible version came out.
The iOS version of the game managed to break records on the App Store since its release. It became the third highest grossing app in the U.S. after beating "Candy Crush Saga" shortly after it was announced. It also became the fifth highest grossing game in 35 other countries worldwide. During its first week of release alone, over 70 million play sessions per day had been recorded.
Aside from its Android release, the free-to-play simulation game will also have several updates on the same date. One of the reported updates is the introduction of the robotic companion named Mr. Handy, which will come out as a premium reward for those who successfully hunt and harvest resources on the wasteland. Mr. Handy comes from the upcoming "Fallout 4" action role-playing open world console game.
There will also be new threats that will be introduced in the game's update, such as the deathclaw invasions as well as the molerat infestations. All these will become available when the Android version of the game comes out in August.
But before the Android version was announced, Bethesda released the game's first update meant to fix several issues, and included the "Photo Mode" feature which allows players to take photos and share them in their Vault.
