Earthquake in LA today, March 17, 2014: 4.4 magnitute quake shakes residents in Santa Monica, Calabasas

A 4.4 magnitute earthquake struck in Southern California on Monday, March 17, 2014.

The earthquake happened at 6.30 a.m. PST in Los Angeles, and was felt by residents in Santa Monica, Calabasas, Bevery Hills, West Los Angeles, Pacific Palisades, and other nearby areas.

Residents woke up to the rattle, which was initially recorded as a 4.7 magnitute earthquake, but was downloaded 20 minutes later by the U.S. Geological survey.

The latest quake is the biggest tremor of the year so far. No damage has been reported.

The epicenter of the quake was 6 miles from Westwood in Los Angeles.
