'Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2' release date set for December 2016

 Bandai Namco

"Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2" was recently announced via a new reveal trailer and Bandai Namco appears to be retaining the same graphical style and fighting system that the first game introduced. As stated in a report from iTech Post, the game will be launching this December for the PS4, Xbox One and PC via Steam.

The game will be released in Japan prior to the U.S. and European launch but it will be exclusively for the PS4. This may reflect the fact that the Xbox One is not as popular in Japan as it is in the United States. Steam, the digital platform from Valve, is just starting to pick up popularity in Japan which may explain why it is not included in the Japanese launch.

"Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2" will not be based on any established story from the manga and anime and will have its own, independent story. The trailer reveals that players will make their own character and be tasked with preserving history and the time line.

It is further revealed in a report from Anime News Network that the game will focus on the Time Patrollers, people tasked with preserving history and the flow of time. Some, however, want to alter time and the events that took place and now the player will be tasked with stopping them before history is forever altered.

Fans speculate that the game's campaign mode may pit the player in alternate realities and events that happen differently due to the way the plot might alter the events in "Dragon Ball" history.

Shown in the trailer is another appearance of Future Trunks. This may be a tribute to the return of Future Trunks in "Dragon Ball Super" given that this Future Trunks is currently in the anime, coming back from a future that has been destroyed by an evil iteration of Goku.
