In addition to the cash sum donation, truckloads of Coca-Cola products will be donated to The Salvation Army’s numerous hurricane relief centres across the afflicted areas, where Army ministers and volunteers are providing food and temporary shelter to thousands of evacuees.

Ingrid Saunders Jones, Senior Vice President of The Coca-Cola Company, and Chairperson of The Coca-Cola Foundation, said: “The Coca-Cola family is deeply saddened by the devastation of Hurricane Katrina and the subsequent flooding. Through our contribution to The Salvation Army, we are able to help those most in need.”

Coca-Cola’s donation is much needed by The Salvation Army to continue providing for the hurricane-dispossessed. “We are looking at a massive support and clean up effort due to this storm,” said Major Dalton Cunningham, The Salvation Army’s Divisional Commander for the states of Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi.

“Coca-Cola has been a long-time friend to The Salvation Army both locally and worldwide, and we are deeply grateful for this corporate friend who continues to come through to help us help our communities in times of extraordinary need,” he said.

The Salvation Army has been working round the clock across the hurricane disaster area. In Coca-Cola’s home state of Georgia, The Salvation Army has been serving victims in three distribution centres and with mobile feeding units from ten Georgia cities including Atlanta, Savannah, Macon and Columbus.
