Christians Join Abortion Rights March

WASHINGTON D.C. -- About 1.1 million protestors for abortion rights from across the nation and from 60 countries took part in the “March for Women’s Lives” before the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. This year’s march drew more people than the abortion rights march took place in 1992.

The majority of participants were women activists who are in concern of women’s rights and freedom but there were also some pro-choice Christian protestors from 70 different church denominations. Although most Christians believe abortion is against the Bible some liberal Christians believe they need to protect women’s rights.

In prior to the march, The Rev. Carlton Veazey, president of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, who organized church groups to partake in this march said:

"We are bringing people from all over the country to witness that religious people are pro-choice. There's a need for religious people to say 'Yes, this is where we stand and we stand on our faith on this matter."'

There were a few opponents of abortion rights marching along the side of the huge crowd carrying pictures of aborted fetuses."It's murder. It's wrong," said one man from San Diego, California, who declined to give his name. "This country has become an abomination before God. What's it going to take for this country to repent and come back to God?"
