Christian artists gather at Abbey Road for Haiti single

Over 250 UK CCM and gospel artists, as well as church leaders, gathered at the world famous Abbey Road studios on Saturday for the recording of a charity single to raise money for the survivors of the Haiti earthquake.

Just some of the artists featured on the single 'Somebody Please' are Graham Kendrick, Martin Smith, Tim Hughes, Noel Robinson, Muyiwa, Cie, Guvna B, Victizzle, Jahaziel, Rachel Kerr, Ken Riley, LZ7, Simon Brading.

Somebody Please was written by Israel Houghton and Noel Robinson and is featured on the One Voice album, released by Kingsway Music last year. The single will be available for purchase in April.

Lawrence Johnson, who is organising this charity recording along with Les Moir of Kingsway Music stated, “We decided to record ‘Somebody Please’ because we felt the lyrics were very appropriate for the people we hope to raise funds for.

"It tells the story of a child crying out for help and justice. We’re also very excited about this project.

"The response from Christian artists has been overwhelming, and people are really looking forward to participating in a project that will help to change people’s lives.”

Les Moir commented, “The support we have got from the church has been amazing too. A number of church leaders are coming down to the project, including Doug Williams from the Assemblies of God, Bishop Wayne Malcolm of Christian Life City and Pastor Tayo Adeyemi of New Wine church.

"This event is really bringing people together, and I believe is a reflection of the growing unity that exists within our churches.”

All the proceeds from the sale of the single will be donated to Compassion International, a Christian charity that partners with churches throughout the world to support children.

Ian Hamilton, Head of Compassion International UK stated, “We’re just thrilled to hear how the Christian and gospel music community want to act so decisively to help our stricken brothers and sisters in Haiti.

"I’m writing this as I we drive around the streets of Port au Prince: the devastation we have seen and the stories we have heard are unimaginable. This morning I met a 6 year old girl in an orphanage who had been pulled from the rubble after three days. Her mother, father and five siblings all died.

"There are thousands of such children. The funds that this project will raise will help rebuild shattered lives.”
