'Castle' picked up for season 8, gets two new showrunners

Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic from ABC's Castle ABC

Rick will be back for more mystery-solving exploits as "Castle" was officially picked up for season 8. Fans will have to welcome big changes that come with this renewal. One is almost considered a tradition and the other, in the event it happens, will be very difficult to adjust to.

"Castle" viewers will welcome, once again, two new showrunners for the series' eighth season. David Amann, who filled the spot for the show's seventh run after Andrew Marlowe, will be handing the torch to Alexi Hawley, known for his work in Fox's "The Following" and NBC's "State of Affairs," which was recently cancelled by the network. Hawley also served as an executive producer for season 2 to season 4 of "Castle." He was once an executive story editor for the crime procedural series and also wrote several episodes including one titled "Headhunters," wherein Adam Baldwin guest starred.

Joining Hawley is Terrence Paul Winter, who was executive producer in the recently concluded season of "Castle" and has written 13 episodes in the last five seasons. He was also once a supervising producer and a co-executive producer for the series, which means he knows an awful lot about Rick's exploits and troubles.

However, with the welcoming of the new showrunners comes a possible sendoff. Stana Katic, who plays Kate Beckett in the series, may be leaving "Castle" along with Amann. While lead actor Nathan Fillon already renewed his contract for season 8 in early April, the actress has yet to reach an agreement with ABC regarding her return for the new season.

There were previous rumors suggesting that Beckett's character will be killed off in the series as Katic is reportedly unlikely to once again take up the role of the bold and fearless detective and Rick's beloved partner in everything.

Still, whether Katic will be returning to "Castle" or not, the series is still going forward.
