'Captain America: Civil War' spoilers, plot news: Robert Downey Jr. talks major plot points

 Marvel Studios

Speaking to USA Today, actor Robert Downey Jr. recently got to discuss several aspects of the upcoming "Captain America: Civil War," in which he continues to portray Tony Stark aka Iron Man. According to Downey, Iron Man will be viewed as an antagonist of sorts but not as a total villain.

"If we're going to go there, then we've got to save it for my swan song. I would still like to keep a general audience and mildly be in their favor somehow," the actor explained. This may indicate that there will be an "Iron Man 4" but Downey immediately shot this down. "In a way it's 'Cap 3' but for me it's like my little 'Iron Man 4' and then it's back to the thing we all recognize."

While Iron Man won't be the film's true villain, not even by a long shot, he will still go through a very dark story line. According to a report from Cinema Blend, co-director Joe Russo explained that in this particular film, Iron Man is set to go through a very complex, very dark arc and hints of this can be viewed in the trailer.

Several scenes spread through the different trailers depict Iron Man being dismayed that Captain America (Chris Evans) no longer considers Tony Stark as his friend, and there is also a shot of Iron Man holding on to War Machine (Don Cheadle), who may be dying or could be already dead.

However, the duo won't be fighting for long as they are expected to join together when Thanos (Josh Brolin) arrives in "Avengers: Infinity War."

Without any confirmation of "Iron Man 4" being developed, "Captain America: Civil War" and any potential appearance in the two-part "Avengers: Infinity War" films could be the finale for the character. From there on, the Marvel Cinematic Universe may bank on their newer characters such as Captain Marvel and Doctor Strange.

"Captain America: Civil War" will be released in theaters this May 6.

If you look at the Church of England’s communications all that it ever seems to highlight is the good works that Christians do to improve the temporal well-being of their neighbours. It is right to highlight these things, but they are not the primary reason for the Church’s existence.
