'Boruto: Naruto the Movie' release date in U.S.; details on freebies

Boruto: Naruto the Movie Toho

"Boruto: Naruto the Movie" is expected to hit select U.S. theaters this coming fall, according to a report from Watchinga. No specific date has come out although the movie will be released in Japan on Aug. 7. Japanese viewers will be able to pre-order movie tickets starting July 27.

According to the report, the movie will follow the same release pattern as the previous "Naruto" film, "The Last: Naruto the Movie." This means that U.S. fans will enjoy it with its original Japanese language but with English subtitles. There are no plans as of the moment to re-release the film when it gets dubbed in English.

The report also explains that this release pattern means the film will be shown in eight U.S. cities, namely Boston, Dallas, Houston, New York City, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, and Seattle. There are no confirmations about a nationwide rollout in major theater chains as of the moment of writing.

Given that the Japanese screening is Aug. 7, fans in the United States can expect the film to hit theaters either simultaneously or within the weeks following the Japanese launch. Fans speculate that the film will be rolled out in cinemas in October since the previous film was shown two months after its Japanese debut.

The first 100,000 movie ticket buyers in Japan will be given a freebie. They will have a folding fan that features illustrations done by series creator Masashi Kishimoto. In the U.S., early ticket buyers for "The Last: Naruto the Movie" were given free commemorative posters and it is likely that the release of "Boruto" will do the same.

"Boruto: Naruto the Movie" tells the tale of Naruto's son Boruto and Sasuke's daughter Sarada as they follow in their fathers' footsteps in becoming powerful ninjas. A new character, Mitsuki, is expected to make his debut appearance in the film. Orochimaru, one of the most formidable villains in the original series, will return as the primary antagonist.
