Blackphone 2 specs: Bigger battery, 8-core processor, 3GM RAM and beefed up mobile privacy

 Silent Circle

Tech company Silent Circle, who prides itself as a leader in mobile security, has announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona the successor to one of Time magazine's "25 Best Inventions of 2014."

With better specs than the original, the Blackphone 2 has an 8-core processor and 3 GB of RAM, versus the first Blackphone's quad-core and 1 GB RAM. The new phone is also a larger version in terms of display, increasing from 4.7 inches to having a 5.5-inch screen with Gorilla Glass, and a longer-lasting 3060 mAh battery.

Since Silent Circle is known to focus on mobile security, Blackphone 2 also comes with an upgraded PrivatOS 1.1, security apps bundled into a Silent Suite, and the proprietary Silent Meeting, the company's secure conference call app. Blackphone 2 also comes with Spaces. This PrivatOS improvement will give users the option to create several profiles, allowing them to freely control and choose which information they could open and share.

The new phone is also bundled with services like the Silent Store, Silent Manager, and Silent World, an encrypted call plan that allows users to call and connect with others on the same plan.

Silent Circle also unveiled what they call the world's "first secure tablet and smartphone," the Blackphone+.

Speaking on why they focus on mobile security, Mike Janke, security expert at Silent Circle, said, "We're not interested in selfie sticks, bending phones or candy colours. We want to challenge convention and make sure devices are secure at the core."

These new devices from Silent Circle are a part of what the company calls the world's "first enterprise privacy platform," combining devices, services, and software for improving security for the user.

The Blackphone 2 will make its way into the market in the second half of the year.
