Thanksgiving is one of the most anticipated national holidays both in the United States and Canada, but the following day is something that millions of Americans wait for all year, and it's called Black Friday. The tradition has been practiced since the early 1930s and many look at it as the start of the Christmas shopping season. During Black Friday, the biggest retailers including the likes of Target, Walmart, and Best Buy offer huge discounts on a wide array of products.

While some stores already welcome shoppers on Thanksgiving Day, others prefer to open on the actual Black Friday. So it is of great help if shoppers know where and when to go to these places. Here's a list of the store hours for major national retailers for Black Friday 2016:

1 - Best Buy

Open on Thanksgiving: 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Black Friday: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

2 - Barnes & Noble

Closed on Thanksgiving

Black Friday: starts at 6 a.m., while closing hours differ from one area to another, according to News for Shoppers.

3 – Costco

Closed on Thanksgiving

Black Friday: starts at 9 a.m.

4 – Dick's Sporting Goods

Open on Thanksgiving: 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Black Friday: 5 a.m. to 2 p.m.

5 – GameStop

Closed on Thanksgiving

Black Friday: starts at 5 a.m.

6 – Home Depot

Closed on Thanksgiving, but online sales begin at midnight.

Black Friday: starts at 6 a.m.

7 – Kmart

Open on Thanksgiving: starts at 6 a.m.

Black Friday: open from Thanksgiving Day up to 10 p.m. on Black Friday.

8 – Kohl's

Open on Thanksgiving: starts at 6 p.m.

Black Friday: starts from Thanksgiving Day up to midnight on Black Friday.

9 – Lowe's

Closed on Thanksgiving

Black Friday: starts at 6 a.m.

10 – Macy's

Open on Thanksgiving: 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.

11 – Toys "R" Us

There already is a rising trend among stores to open on Thanksgiving Day, giving consumers more time to shop, although it is worthy of mention that over 40 retailers still opted to close their doors on Thanksgiving and will stick with the traditional Black Friday opening.
