Ben Affleck extends apology to 'One Tree Hill''s Hilarie Burton after 'groping' claim

Thespian Ben Affleck finally said his long-overdue sorry to Hilarie Burton for an incident that occurred 14 years ago. This after the "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" actor had slammed on social media film producer Harvey Weinstein for his alleged harassment of different personalities, and a video of him on MTV's now-defunct show, "Total Request Live," resurfaced, drawing criticisms.

One Tweeter user with the username @ShaniceBrim commented on Affleck's statement saying, "He also grabbed Hilarie Burton's breasts on TRL once. Everyone forgot though," to which the "One Tree Hill" actress replied, "I didn't forget." Burton said that she had to laugh the whole thing out back then to refrain from crying as she was "just a kid." The mentioned video, which showed a series of clips of the highlights of the show including Affleck asking how old Burton was, was uploaded by the "Naughty or Nice" actress, who was one of the show's host back in 2003.

Many expressed concern for Burton, with some saying sorry that this had happened to her. In an apparent admission of what transpired during his guesting in the show, the Golden Globe Award winner apologized to the actress through a tweet. "I acted inappropriately toward Ms. Burton and I sincerely apologize," Affleck said.

Affleck issued a statement amid the controversy Weinstein is in on Oct. 10. In a Twitter post, the actor expressed disgust over what Weinstein did to fellow actors and encouraged everyone to support those who were brave enough to come forward. The post reaped negative comments, including from actress Rose McGowan.

Affleck was called out by the "Scream" actress, who said that he, among other people, knew all of the wrongdoings of Weinstein. McGowan said in a tweet that the "Argo" actor was lying. The "Gone Girl" actor did not issue a reply on the actress' statement.

Weinstein gave Affleck his big acting break in 1997 through the film "Good Will Hunting," which won an Academy Award for best original screenplay. The co-founder of The Weinstein Company was forced to resign after allegations of sexual assault emerged. Many celebrities, like Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie and Ashley Judd, have come out to air their experience in the wake of this controversy.
