The latest trailer for "Bates Motel" season 4 further indicates that this season could see Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore) murder his mother Norma (Vera Farmiga), an act which will inevitably thrust him into madness and become the psychotic killer seen in the Alfred Hitchcock film "Psycho."
The trailer reveals Norma attempting to get some professional help for her son, who has already placed himself in a very dark psychological place following the events of the season 3 finale. However, her attempt to take him to a therapist is seen as an act of betrayal and he begins his rampage against her.
At one point in the trailer Norman is heard telling his mother that she is "dead" to him, hinting that their once-tight bond has been broken for good. According to a report from Screen Rant, this may indicate that by the end of this season Norman will take this term literally and end up murdering his mother.
Several new photos have been released alongside the new trailer, courtesy of Screen Crush. One image focuses on Norma breaking down in front of her son. One of the more pivotal images reveal Norman staring into a mirror.
He sees Norma in the reflection and both are wearing the same attire, indicating that Norman's mind is breaking to the point where he now sees and hears an image of his mother in his head at all times, similar to how he sees her in the film "Psycho," despite her already being dead at that point.
Another photo reveals Emma (Olivia Cooke) at the hospital, about to receive the lung transplant that she and Dylan (Max Thieriot) had been working toward throughout season 3. It is undetermined at this point if Emma will even survive the operation or if she too will fall victim to Norman's insanity.
"Bates Motel" season 4 premieres this March 7.
