Speaking to Uproxx, directors Anthony and Joe Russo have confirmed that "Avengers: Infinity War" part one and part two will receive a title change soon. The brothers explained that the current title gives the audience the wrong notion that the movie is being split into two parts, and that they are currently working on new titles for the two films.
"The movies are two very different movies," explained Joe Russo. "The intention is we will change it, we just haven't come up with the titles yet. But, yes, we will change it. And, yes, that is a scoop: we will retitle them."
His brother, Anthony, explained that the current title is indeed misleading and that it may make audiences think that they are only getting half a movie when they go to theaters to watch part one. The brothers confirm that this is not the case as both films can stand on their own while still building up the current Marvel Cinematic Universe.
According to the report, this sheds new light on the films as it reveals they will tell two different stories that are only connected by the fact they take place in the MCU. It is speculated that the first film will focus on Thanos (Josh Brolin) gathering the Infinity Gems and may introduce Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel while the second film serves as a war between Thanos and the Avengers.
In regards to Thanos being a villain, the brothers explained in a report from JoBlo that the reason previous Marvel movies had issues with their villains not being so remarkable is the fact that those were origin stories and they had to put the spotlight on the hero. They hope to change this by making Thanos as memorable as possible while ensuring he is a threat that can take down the entire Avengers team.
"Avemgers: Infinity War" will open its first film on May 4, 2018 while the second film opens on May 3, 2019.
