A report from Deadline states that the "Assassin's Creed" movie has just added two stellar cast members to its lineup: Brendan Gleeson and Jeremy Irons. They will be joining the film's two main leads portrayed by Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard.

Irons is most remembered for his voice work as Scar in Disney's "The Lion King" and his roles in "Dungeons and Dragons," "Kingdom of Heaven," and "Die Hard with a Vengeance." He is also portraying Alfred Pennyworth in next year's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."

Gleeson is widely recognized for his work in "Edge of Tommorrow," "Braveheart," and the "Harry Potter" franchise, where he portrayed the character Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody.

According to the report, Gleeson will be portraying the father of Fassbender's character, while Irons is playing Cotillard's father. At this point, none of their names have been released except for Michael Fassbender, who will be playing Callum Lynch in the modern day and Lynch's ancestor Aguilar during 15th-century Spain.

Neither character has appeared before in the "Assassin's Creed" video games, but as previously reported, the film will be set in the same universe of the video game franchise, comic books, and novels, creating one large expansive world with interweaving stories and characters. The film's events and characters will have an affect on the events of future games.

According to a report from Screen Rant, it is possible that Aguilar falls in love with Cotillard's character, only to find out that she and her father are part of the Knights Templar, the sworn enemies of the Assassins. Their relationship might continue to have repurcussions even in the modern day, most notably to Callum Lynch.

"Assassin's Creed" the movie will hit theaters by Dec. 21, 2016 while the next title in the video game franchise, "Assassin's Creed: Unity," is set to release this Oct. 23.
