Rumors and speculations regarding the iPhone 6s easily drowned talks about Apple possibly updating its "c" lineup. Cowen and Company analyst Timothy Arcuri claims that Apple actually planned to release a 4-inch iPhone 6c but this did not push through.

According to Arcuri, Apple worked on the said low-cost version of its bestselling flagship. He claims to have seen evidence of the iPhone 6c in actual production in the initial months of the year before it disappeared without warning.

In his research note obtained by Business Insider, the analyst tried to figure out the reason the Cupertino-based company changed its mind. What he came up with isn't really surprising, however, and is something that reminds users that Apple is a business that is up for things that go their way profit-wise.

"I think one of the reasons is because the iPhone 6 has sold so well," Arcuri stated. "And they said, 'Look, why would we want to cannibalize? If we came out with an iPhone 6c, we would essentially cannibalize a price-reduced iPhone 6,'" the analyst explained.

The iPhone 6c was meant to be a smaller version of the iPhone 6 and a cheaper one but with the same insides to power it up. It is reported to be for users who want a premium device at a price that's easy on the pocket.

Interestingly, a report from Phone Arena claims that the successor to the iPhone 5c might be released early next year. It is rumored to be dressed in sleek metal and not plastic. While no specs details are on hand, the site says that the iPhone 6c is getting help from Sony in the camera department. More importantly, the publication mentioned a new leak that hints on its battery capacity. Nowhereelse.fr picked up a photo that allegedly shows that 1715 mAh battery that's going inside the iPhone 6c.

As Apple decides to go all premium on the device, it remains to be seen what aspect Apple will downgrade to justify its expected economical price.
