The season 4 of Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." left fans wondering how the next season will begin. The finale, titled "World's End," saw Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) out of this world, literally.

In an interview with IGN, "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." executive producer Jeff Bell confirmed that there will indeed be a time jump. At the New York Comic Con, fans saw the trailer for the season 5, where the cast faced aliens. Considering how the past season had ended, fans quickly theorized that S.W.O.R.D., or Sentient World Observation and Response Department, as seen in the comics, would be coming to the show, though the cast had terminated the possibility already during the event.

There will also be a scary creature on the premiere, as noted from the trailer. The interior of what looked like a spaceship was described as "memorable and effective." Also aboard the ship was an unknown man with a mask, who looked like Xorn from the X-Men.

Further, since fans appreciated the fact that the showrunners had divided the fourth season into pods, the technique would probably be used for the next and other seasons as well. "I do think people responded well to the different types of stories, and I suspect we'll look at that again as we go forward," Bell said.

ABC president Channing Dungey described the next season of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." as the "strongest" and added that the shift of its air day would be an advantage for the series' enormous fan base.

The recently released "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." season 5 poster also teased of an outer space experience, proving that the premiere will likely pick up where season 4 ended.

The fifth season premiere will air on Dec. 1, Friday, at 8 p.m. EDT, on ABC. Fans are in for a treat as the first episode of the fifth season will run for two hours, after which the regular programming will start on Dec. 8, Friday, at 9 p.m. EDT.
