3 tips on how to shine for Christ in your workplace

We should always desire to bloom where we are planted. God has purposely put you where you are now (see Psalm 16:6). Whether single or married, living up north or down south, God personally planted you there for a purpose. Wherever you are right now, God wants you to bless His name.

It's the same with your career. Whatever job you're in, God wants you to find Him, to love Him, and to serve Him. It's not by coincidence that you're there, nor is it only a matter of the need to have money to pay bills. God purposely planted you there, so the best thing to do is not to desire going out but rather to know why God put you there and then to shine for Christ in your workplace.

Acts 17:26-28 says, "From one man he created all the nations throughout the whole earth. He decided beforehand when they should rise and fall, and he determined their boundaries. His purpose was for the nations to seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward Him and find Him—though He is not far from any one of us. For in Him we live and move and exist."

Friend, you're in your workplace to shine the light of Christ for God's glory. To help you do that, here are a few tips for you.

1. Seek God while you work

Augustine once said, "Thou hast made us for thyself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it finds its rest in thee." When we take this attitude as we work, our coworkers will clearly see how much we love God.

The Lord Jesus had this attitude when He went through His earthly ministry. In everything that He did, it's all for the Father. That way, the Father was glorified in Him. We can do that, too – by unashamedly seeking to honour God as we work.

2. Love your coworkers

Although it's always tempting to compare yourself to that coworker who got a promotion, or to grumble about that boss who keeps pressuring you with tasks, we should choose to take the high path: to love our coworkers.

Loving others, not complaining or competing against, is always the better option. It's what Jesus commanded us to do (see Matthew 22:39; Mark 12:31).

3. Serve at your best

Excellence is easily attainable when we work for our bosses as unto the Lord (see Colossians 3:22-25). When we consider our service to our companies as our offering of love unto the Lord, work becomes enjoyable and the quality of our output more desirable. Serve your company the same way you would serve God.
