An actor-comedian has been tagged to play a journalist that will take a trip to Hawkins and check out clues for a case. Meanwhile, season 2 might have a storyline that finally reunites Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) with her mother.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Adult Swim" actor Brett Gelman will be joining the cast of "Stranger Things" season 2 as a journalist named Murray Bauman. He will be joining other new cast members such as Sean Astin, Paul Reiser, Linnea Berthelsen, Sadie Sink, and Dacre Montgomery, who are all going to appear in season 2.

Gelman's character Murray used to be a journalist but has become a conspiracy theorist, and he will be arriving in Hawkins to investigate a cold case. There are speculations that Murray will be investigating the MK Ultra project of Hawkins Lab where Eleven's mother, Terry Ives (Aimee Mullins), was experimented on, which led to Eleven acquiring her abilities and becoming part of the lab's experiments as well.

In the finale episode of "Stranger Things" season 1, newspaper clippings of Will (Noah Schnapp) coming home was shown. Apparently, it included details that might develop into the second season's storyline, such as Ives testifying with Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) against the Hawkins Lab.

There are speculations that Joyce has already informed Ives that her daughter is alive and that she has special abilities but is currently missing.

Upon hearing the news, Ives might push to be reunited with her daughter and bring her home to the bedroom that was always kept clean for Jane/Eleven.

Although Eleven disappeared without a trace, episode 7 — titled "The Secret Cabin" — could indicate that Eleven is still alive and hiding somewhere at a fort. It is possible that Sherriff Hopper (David Harbour) knows where this fort is, since he was last seen leaving Eggos and other snacks in the forest, presumably for Eleven to eat.

"Stranger Things" season 2 is expected to debut in July 2017 on Netflix.
