'Spiritual Breakthrough', written by General John Larsson and long out of print, has now been published on the UK Salvation Army website.

John Larsson's book was first published in 1983 when the author was serving in South America. It draws from his experience as a leader in Europe and also on the staff of the International Training College in London.

The work was published at a time when there was considerable debate about how the work of the Holy Spirit was made evident in the life of ordinary Christians. The author takes a careful look at various ways in which churches have attempted to describe and sometimes circumscribe spiritual experience, and draws directly from the written testimonies of Christians through the ages, from John Wesley up to the time of writing. He unpacks terms and definitions which have caused controversy and misunderstanding, such as 'baptism in the Spirit', 'spiritual renewal' and 'full salvation' and examines them in the light of Scripture.

There is a clear practicality about the book, and a real relevance for individual Christians who may be doubtful, confused or even disturbed about what part the Holy Spirit could play in their lives.

'Spiritual Breakthrough' is the latest in a series of re-publications of classic Salvation Army writing being added to The Salvation Army's UK website. Its publication in this new form was given support and editorial help from the author, who is now world leader of the international Salvation Army.
