'House of Cards' season 4 spoilers: Francis Underwood to be killed off?

 Netflix

"House of Cards" season 4 may be the series' final. According to a post from Enstarz, the original U.K. series lasted for only three seasons and ended with the main character being assassinated. The U.S. adaptation on Netflix has diverted greatly from the source material but the report cites that the ending may still be the same.

Season 3 ended with Francis (Kevin Spacey) open and vulnerable now that his wife Claire (Robin Wright) left him. It is heavily speculated in season 4 that she will either run against him in the Presidential elections or may be forced to work with him as they face a new, younger couple that threatens their authority.

According to the report, season 4 may see Francis formulate a scheme to get rid of Claire if she remains his enemy. After all, she knows all his secrets and is currently his biggest threat. However, Claire may be very aware of how Francis works and may be working on her own scheme to kill him off before he can kill her.

The new couple that will be introduced in season 4 may also be responsible for killing off Francis. At this point, no major plot points for season 4 have been revealed except for the fact that the new couple will prove to be a strong force to be reckoned with and their political influence might lead to Francis's death.

Francis is also noted to be losing all his allies, and in season 4, he may have no one left to save him in case he runs into serious trouble. The character has murdered people several times throughout the three seasons that have been released and it is very possible that season 4 will end with one person getting revenge.

Several months back, actor Michael Kelly, who plays Doug, revealed in an interview with the Los Angeles Times that there is a chance Francis will attempt to kill off Doug in season 4. If this plan fails, there is also the chance of Doug killing Francis in vengeance.

No official premiere date has yet been announced but "House of Cards" season 4 is expected to release in late February 2016.
