'Hart of Dixie' season 5 update: renewal up to Rachel Bilson?

The future of The CW's comedy-drama "Hart of Dixie" is still unclear, since the network still has to announce whether the show is coming back for season five or not.

But actress Jaimie King told E! News that in case the network decides to cancel the show, it will not be because of the ratings. Instead, the show will be discontinued because lead actress Rachel Bilson would want to spend more time with her baby daughter.

"It's a tricky situation because it really isn't about ratings for us," King shared. "It's not like a ratings issue it was more of a timing issue. Rachel Bilson got pregnant and wanted to take a maternity leave. Every woman has a right to do that. I think that everything has an impact on the ways things are decided upon. It's very interesting because our fans are so devoted."

Meanwhile, Bilson allegedly left Los Angeles with her long-time boyfriend Hayden Christensen and their daughter Briar Rose to be away from the city.

If the Hart of Dixie will continue for season five, it could mean that Bilson's character Zoe Hart might not be in Bluebell next season, and the rest of the cast have to go on without her.

But while King believes that the show will not be cancelled because of its ratings, The CW president Mark Pedowitz earlier stated during the Television Critics Association winter press tour that they will still have to observe how the show rates in season four. He also claimed that series creator Leila Gerstein managed to make the greatest 10 episodes of the series this year.

"So if it ends, there's a great finale. If it doesn't end, there's a great season finale, but we're not committed one way or the other yet," Pedowitz stated.
