Actor Jeremy Renner recently posted some concept art of "Captain America: Civil War" on his Twitter account. The film will see Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) waging war against Captain America (Chris Evans), and Renner's tweets reveal whose sides the different superheroes will take.
Iron Man's team comprises of Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Vision (Paul Bettany), War Machine (Don Cheadle), and Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman). Captain America's team will have Agent Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp), Falcon (Anthony Mackie), the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner).
Also seen in another concept art is Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) standing on Captain America's shoulders. There is also an unidentified character flying in the background seen in Captain America's team. According to a report from Comic Book Resources, this may be the character Redwing, worked into the film as a drone working for Falcon.
Noticeably absent are Spider-Man (Tom Holland) and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen). It is widely believed that Spider-Man will side with Iron Man while Scarlet Witch will side with Captain America. However, in the comic book source material, Spider-Man later switches sides and joins Captain America's team.
The film will also be Spider-Man's debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, after which he will star in his solo film by 2017.
The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) is also not shown in the concept art, although this may be because of the character's nature. The character was last seen in "Avengers: Age of Ultron" going into hiding and he may not appear until the two-part "Avengers: Infinity War" films.
The report from Comic Book Resources also cites that despite Black Panther being shown as a part of Iron Man's team, Marvel president Kevin Feige has said that the character represents a "third party," indicating he will be neutral to both sides of the war similar to how Spider-Man is until he begins taking sides.
"Captain America: Civil War" opens in theaters on May 6, 2016.
