'Star Trek Uncharted' new TV series concept pitched by avid fan

Star Trek Uncharted Paramount

Here's something that rarely, or never, happens: Paramount has invited avid "Star Trek" fan Michael Gummelt to come over and pitch his idea for a new "Star Trek" TV series titled "Star Trek Uncharted."

Gummelt is a mere fan of the series and does not work in the film and television industry by any means. This marks the first time that someone outside of the industry has been called in to pitch a new sci-fi series, let alone a big brand name series like "Star Trek." Still, a report from Slash Film indicates that Gummelt's new series has a lot going for it. The official synopsis for the series reads as follows:

A mysterious signal is received from the Andromeda Galaxy, claiming to be from the creators of life in the Milky Way, and inviting us to come meet them. A new 'space folding' technology developed — a Hyperwarp Gate constructed to warp jump 2.5 million light years to the Andromeda Galaxy. Probes have returned successfully with data about Andromeda."

According to the report, the series will involve a brand new USS Enterprise and a whole new cast of officers as they travel to the Andromeda Galaxy to establish first contact. The Enterprise will occasionally return to the Milky Way for re-staffing, supply runs, and more.

There will also be a space station built called Starbase A-1. Once it is complete, two other ships will join the Enterprise in its expedition.

Gummelt also explains in the report that "Star Trek Uncharted" will not be a reboot but will take place in the future, several years after the events of "The Next Generation," "Voyager," and "Deep Space Nine," which all took place roughly at the same time, 200 years after "The Original Series."

He explained that he wants the show to be a continuation of the television series but it shouldn't be bogged down by tidbits that only old fans of "Star Trek" would know, allowing the show to be fresh and appreciated by newcomers to the franchise. He also addressed that a reboot has already been done with the new movies that started with 2009's "Star Trek."
