The rumor about Google making another Nexus 7 tablet next year continues taking shape. This time, speculations add that Google will partner with Huawei for a refreshed Nexus 7 and could launch the new Nexus addition as early as May next year.

In a report by Tech Times, it is mentioned that Google will be again partnering with China-based tech manufacturer Huawei, as the tech giant seems to be more than satisfied with Huawei's success with a recent Nexus outing.

This time, instead of another follow-up to the Nexus 6P collaboration, Huawei will supposedly make its own take on the Nexus 7 tablet. In addition, the industry follower also said that should Huawei continue with the assembly, the new Nexus 7 tablet could appear in the early months of next year, possibly by May.

Although the timeline is only a conjecture at this point, the industry follower can be referring to an announcement at Google's annual I/O event, which takes place in either May or June.

Aside from the supposed appearance, Google is still keeping details about upcoming Nexus flagships under wraps. However, in terms of specs, some observers are saying that the Nexus 7 tablet, should it come out, may well be a watered-down, smaller version of Google's recently released Pixel C hybrid.

Some features that will be reportedly shared by the new Nexus 7 include at least 2 GB of RAM, and running Android M right out of the box. As for the processor, speculations are divided between Huawei's homegrown Kirin 950 chipset and the Nvidia Tegra X1 processor powering the Google Pixel C.

Reportedly, Google was not a fan of Huawei's own chipset, and may push for the China-based company to integrate an Nvidia Tegra chipset instead (much like the previous versions of Nexus 7). There are also observers like Realty Today speculating that Google may even prefer a Snapdragon 820 SoC over that of Huawei's Kirin.
