After deciding to stay together at the end of "Married at First Sight" season 3, Tres Russell and Vanessa Nelson shocked their fans when they announced during the "Married at First Sight: Six Months Later" reunion special that they want to call it quits.

Tres and Vanessa became the fan-favorite couple during the third season of the televised social experiment from FYI. Viewers were rooting for the couple because of their strong chemistry from the start, and they were the only pair to decide to consummate their marriage during the show.

While fans were no longer surprised to hear them announce that they would remain married even after the cameras stopped rolling, the couple announced during Monday night's reunion episode that they want to end their marriage.

Russell talked to The Knot after the reunion episode to explain how he came to realize that his marriage with Vanessa would not work.

"I got burned out on trying to prove myself and show that I was fully committed to our marriage," Tres shared. "I then started to wonder if we could ever work. I wanted to focus on us enjoying each other as people instead of focusing on being this married couple. I wanted us to fall for each other again."

He also mentioned that because of the show, he realized that a marriage will only work if the two people involved fully trust each other.

"If you don't have that, you don't stand a chance," he said.

Meanwhile, fans were surprised to learn that Sam Role and Neil Bowlus have yet to finalize their divorce even if they made it clear during the season 3 finale that they wanted to end their marriage.

Sam admitted that her relationship with Neil started on the wrong foot but she realized that she was falling in love with him after his Las Vegas trip.

Though the two are still living separately, Sam and Neil remain in constant communication. Will they find themselves back in each other's arms soon?

"Married at First Sight" will continue with another season in Chicago, where filming is expected to begin soon.
