A new leak hints that a variant of the Xiaomi Redmi 3 with a fingerprint sensor will hit the market soon. The handset sporting the new biometric technology was spotted in the Chinese telecommunications certification authority TENAA.

For the uninitiated, Xiaomi has already released the Xiaomi Redmi 3 sans the fingerprint sensor back in January. However, it looks like the China-based company is not done with the handset yet and has been working on upgrading it as well.

According to the listing on TENAA, the newer version of the Xiaomi Redmi 3 will have the same set of specs as the original one. That being said, it will feature a 5-inch HD display and will be fitted out with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 processor.

The processor has eight cores, with four cores clocked at 1.2GHz and the other four set at 1.5GHz. It has 2GB RAM to boot and 16GB of storage space that can be expanded up to 128GB with a microSD card.

On the imaging department, the Xiaomi Redmi 3 brings to the table a 13MP rear-facing camera complete with LED flash. It is capable of a full HD video capture. The 5MP shooter on the front has the same video recording capability.

Keeping the device's lights on is a hefty 4100mAh non-removable battery. This is the biggest selling point of the device as it allows users to enjoy everything the device has to offer for longer hours. In addition, it is rare to see a midranger equipped with a unit that big.

The Xiaomi Redmi 3 with the fingerprint scanner is said to be priced at around $122. As for the release date, its recent TENAA visit hints that it will see the light of day soon. Xiaomi is yet to make it official but the company should announce it soon.
