WWE news: Alberto Del Rio attacked in Puerto Rico

Alberto Del Rio is the latest high profile wrestler/entertainer to suffer from an unfortunate incident due to lack of security.

The reigning World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) United States champion was performing for the World Wrestling Council Show (WWC) at the Ruben Rodriguez Coliseum in Bayamon, Puerto Rico last Saturday to fulfill a commitment, but apparently, he got more than what he bargained for.

Del Rio was facing Ray Gonzales at the time and out of nowhere, a fan laid down some wrestling-like moves on the unsuspecting Del Rio, according to the Bleacher Report.

On the video seen below, Del Rio snuck out of the ring to get a familiar time-out. But as he was nearing the railings, a fan laid some wrestling-style moves on the wrestler and it took intervention from security and Gonzales to pull Del Rio out of the melee.

While the incident was certainly something that was not on the script, Gonzales made it look like one by tossing Del Rio back into the ring.

Per Cagesideseats, Gonzales eventually won the match when Del Rio's brother (Memo Montenegro) intervened.

This marks the latest in a series of unprovoked fan attacks for the year. Roman Reigns got hit by a replica Money in the Bank briefcase back in August, while buddy Dean Ambrose almost (allegedly) got stabbed by a fan after a WWE show, as reported by TMZ.

Seth Rollins also had a minor issue during one WWE show when he was walking up ramp and thankfully, nothing untoward happened.

As of report writing, event security and arena personnel may have to do something about controlling the audience, particularly fans who are either up to no good or simply looking for something rare to boast.

Either way, it is their duty to safeguard the stars and make sure that nothing untoward happens during shows.
