Fans of "Wayward Pines" already know that the show has been renewed for another season. Much to their delight, the release date has been confirmed.

Initially, it was speculated that the M. Night Shyamalan series will not return. However, the impressive ratings paid off since FOX Entertainment President David Madden announced last month that the show has been picked up by the network and was given the go signal for another season.

"'Wayward Pines' was a huge hit for us this past summer," Madden said in his statement.

"We were absolutely blown away by the mysterious and surprising world that Night and his team created, and the twisting-and-turning storytelling that drew viewers in from day one," he added.

The show is set to come back in summer this year and will pick up from the events last seen in season 1.

A new character arrives in the eerie town and "finds himself in the middle of a serious rebellion, as the residents battle over how to preserve the endangered human race," as stated in the announcement.

Shyamalan is back on board as the ten-episode season 2's executive producer. Chad Hodge, season 1's showrunner, however, left the project, giving his role to "Believe" creator Mark Friedman, Deadline reported.

Based on the best-selling novels by Blake Crouch, "Wayward Pines" became a summer 2015 hit. Season 1 was the number one broadcast scripted series for summer among viewers from 18–29 age group.

Matt Dillon played the lead role of Ethan Burke, a secret service agent who got into an accident and found himself waking up in the strange town of Wayward Pines.

He discovered that the town and its people hold some shocking secrets. In the finale episode, Burke died trying to save the innocent residents from the monstrous Abbies.

An exact release date for season 2 of "Wayward Pines" has yet to be announced. More details should be dropped in the coming months.
