The first trailer for "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 is now out and it shows what the series looks and feels like with Elena out of the picture. Indeed, the clip proves that the series can deliver a gripping season with action, thrill, drama and romance even without the heroine.

Damon's old attitude brings fans home. The longed-for Steroline kiss finally happens. Lastly, the Heretics arrive and take over Mystic Falls.

Led by the Salvatore matriarch, the new baddies that Caroline calls "supernatural terrorists" drive the residents out of the place and announce that anyone who sets foot in their newly-claimed territory will be theirs.

Caroline thinks it is a "huge mistake handing over" Mystic Falls to the troublemaking newcomers. In one scene in the trailer, she is being tortured by one Heretic member, hinting that anyone who messes with this group is going to suffer. However, as Stefan reminds Damon, a deal has been agreed upon, presumably between them and the Heretics.

"We don't mess with them. They don't mess with us," he tells his brother.

In another scene, Damon, while he appears to be packing some bags, tells Stefan that it is not a good deal at all. The scene then cuts to Bonnie who insists that they must stop and "destroy" this "evil." Lily, on the other hand, gives Stefan a not so helpful motherly advice: "Run."

While Stefan tries to learn how to make a bomb, probably in preparation for fighting off these bad guys and reclaiming their hometown, Damon, being the volatile, naughty guy he is, tries to squeeze in some partying and other jaunty activities in the week before he deals with these Heretics.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 will premiere on Oct. 8.
