UFC 190: Rousey vs Correia fight preview: Correia unfazed by underdog tag

Bethe Correia is all set to face off against Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey this coming weekend, in a fight wherein Correia is seen as very much an underdog.

That, however, does not bother the Brazilian fighter who will be entering the fight one year after undergoing eye surgery, which saw her sidelined for some time. Regardless, Correia says that she is not about to use the eye surgery and long layoff issue as points for consideration in the event that she does go down as everyone expects this Saturday.

"An eye injury is much more serious than fighting with an injured arm. It could force retirement. I don't wish to retire so early. I want to continue fighting for many years to come, so I followed all instructions to the letter. Vision is serious business, and as soon as the doctor gave me clearance, I let the UFC know," says Correia in an interview with mmajunkie.com

Correia seems to be unscathed either by the fact that Rousey is an overwhelming favorite heading into UFC 190. For her, it seems that the latter's previous opponents were pretty much hit by the anxiety bug. However, she believes that Rousey's previous adversaries carried the talent to defeat the champion, if only they had employed a proper approach during their matches with Rousey.

So can we expect Correia to bring in something different?

If her theory holds true, Correia could pull off one of the biggest upsets in UFC history. She claims that she has studied Rousey carefully and will be ready for the prolonged punishment that Rousey intends to use.

The Rousey vs. Correia fight has, of course, turned into something personal ever since that controversial suicide tweet that the PitBull posted some months back. She has since apologized but Rousey did not buy it. Such is the reason why Rousey said that her upcoming bout with the Brazilian fighter will be a different one compared to her previous matches, emphasizing that she intends to inflict as much pain as possible.

Rousey and Correia will face off in UFC 190, which will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil this coming Saturday starting at 10 p.m. EST and 7 p.m. PST.
