'True Detective' season 3 release date rumors: Production has yet to begin?

Though fans have been waiting for the third season of "True Detective" since forever, new reports have begun to spread word that the crime drama series won't be releasing any new episodes till 2017.

Last week, Casey Bloys, the programming president for HBO went on an interview with Entertainment Weekly to talk about the second season of the newly-released science fiction Western robocaplyse thriller, "Westworld," and during the discussion, the publication touched on the topic of "True Detective" season 3.

While Bloys indicated that he suspects "Westworld" to return with its second season in 2018, it seems like "True Detective" season 3 still doesn't have a specific release date. Based on Bloy's responses, it seems like production for the new season of the crime series hasn't even begun. When asked for an update on the next batch of episodes for "True Detective" and "The Night of," Bloys said that the new seasons for both series are still in the hands of their respective writers.

"They're thinking about ideas, and when they find something, that's when I'll hear from them. I don't have anything to report on either of them other than they're thinking about what the best-next version is," the programming president explained.

According to a report by iTech Post, speculation has been going around during the second season of "True Detective" that the series could come to an end because of low ratings. Staring Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch, Vince Vaugh and Rachel McAdams, the series' second season has taken the brunt of criticism because of its decline since its premiere season on HBO.

Though Bloys previously debunked the cancellation rumors for "True Detective" by saying that the show is "not yet dead," without a specific release date or any concrete production updates on the new season, it seems like fans are still expecting the new season to come out sometime in late 2017.
