Season 11 of Fox's science fiction drama series "The X-Files" continues to mystify viewers with its latest trailer. Several plot details have been released, with season 11 consisting mostly of standalone episodes.

The season finale of season 10 ended with a cliffhanger and fans are asking for more given that the season only lasted for six episodes. Season 11 will have a total of 10 episodes and will premiere in 2018. It will feature mostly mythological plots to fully utilize the series' main element which is science fiction.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, screenwriter Chris Carter explained that there are a lot of turning points in the story. He said, "Obviously something unexpected has happened."

Most trailer reactions focused on a brewing tension between FBI special agent Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and FBI Assistant Director Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi). However, one of the biggest reveals in the trailer, according to many fans and critics is a mention of William Scully, the son of Mulder with his partner and also an FBI special agent, Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson).

At the New York Comic-Con earlier this month, TVLine's Michael Ausiello was the panel moderator during a discussion with Duchovny, Pileggi, Anderson, and screenwriter Chris Carter. Anderson mentioned an upcoming new young actor to appear in season 11.

Fans are quick to assume that she was talking about William and they are more excited to see whom the series hired to play the young role. There are still questions about what will be the impact of William in the latest season.

FBI special agent Monica Reyes (Annabeth Gish) will work with Scully to develop a vaccine to cure the Spartan virus. One of the three Lone Gunmen, Richard Langley appeared in the trailer and there are questions whether he will come back given that he is already dead.

Fans are still baffled given that there are still unsolved mysteries in the series and they are wondering on how the show will connect all the dots.
