HBO will release the sixth season of "Game of Thrones" next month, but fans may still have to wait a little while before getting a new update about "The Winds of Winter."
The sixth book from "A Song of Ice and Fire" series, from which the epic TV saga is based, remains unfinished. This makes fans eager to get hold of a copy of the book since its predecessor "A Dance with Dragons" contains cliffhangers that are tied to the events featured in the show's fifth season.
Since Martin admitted that the book will not be ready in time for "Game of Thrones" season 6 on April 24, fans of both the book and TV series will be kept in the dark about the possible scenarios happening in Westeros unlike the previous seasons.
While the release date of "The Winds of Winter" remains unknown, the 67-year-old author revealed that he will read another chapter from his upcoming book, and he will do it one month after "Game of Thrones" season 6 premieres on TV.
Martin made the announcement after a fan asked him on his blog if he will read a new chapter from the book before the season 6 premiere, but he said that he is not scheduled to attend any conferences before the upcoming season premiere of the HBO series. According to the best-selling author, "My next reading will be at Balticon, in late May. Baltimore, MD."
The author also hinted that "Game of Thrones" could span up to 10 seasons in order to keep up with the plot of his books even if showrunners David Beniodd and D.B. Weiss have announced that they plan on wrapping the series after season 7. However, HBO programming president Michael Lombardo said that he is open to see the series extend beyond season 7.
"The question is how much beyond seven are we going to do," Lombardo said during the Television Critics Association's summer press tour 2015, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
