Vampire series fanatics are happy to know that "The Originals" will be having a crossover with "The Vampire Diaries."
The news was announced at the Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour in Pasadena, California last Sunday by The CW President Mark Pedowitz, TV Line reported. The crossover special will serve as both shows' 14th episode.
Executive producer Julie Plec revealed to Variety at the TCA that she had wanted to do a crossover special with the two shows for a long time.
"I've wanted to do this for a really long time and find a way to do it that didn't feel like we were jamming story for the sake of cross-pollinating the shows," she said.
In this particular crossover episode, Stefan (Paul Wesley) is desperately in need of a place where there's no magic, or a "mystical safe haven," as how Plec put it, TV Line reported.
There's no place else other than St. James Infirmary, a bar that was featured in "The Originals." Stefan will then visit New Orleans and meet Klaus (Joseph Morgan) there.
"I call it the reunion of the Bourbon buddies," Plec added.
Plec continued to explain that Stefan will visit the city in "The Vampire Diaries," and he will stay there when the episode for "The Originals" airs. Stefan will help Klaus deal with an issue that concerns him.
The executive producer also teased that Caroline (Candice King) may also be involved with the crossover, but Plec didn't explain further.
Stefan and Klaus will meet when the TV series returns with new episodes on Friday, Jan. 29.
The two shows received a change of schedule, now occupying Friday night timeslots, which fans took as a hint that the series could soon be doomed.
However, Pedowitz reassured fans that the change of timeslots should not be taken as a sign of imminent cancellation of series. Instead, he said that the move was only to "strengthen Friday night."
Both shows will return on Jan. 29, with "The Vampire Diaries" taking the 8 p.m. EST slot and "The Originals" airing at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
