'The Legend of Zelda' Wii U release delayed to 2017, will come with an NX version

The release of the next "The Legend of Zelda" has been delayed to 2017, according to Nintendo of America.

The game studio made the announcement via Twitter, saying that the highly anticipated game will come out on the Wii U and the new gaming platform NX sometime next year.

This will be the second time that the game's release has been pushed back after the announcement of its development in 2013. It was originally announced to come out in 2015, but game producer Eiji Aonuma made a video announcement in March 27, 2015 saying that the game would not come out on its expected date "to make it the ultimate and most complete Zelda game."

IGN spotted the explanation for Nintendo's delay in one of the tweets pertaining to the game, saying: "Though originally scheduled for 2016, the release of the latest 'The Legend of Zelda' title is postponed until 2017, to allow further improvement of quality. Thank you for your understanding."

Since it was confirmed that the NX will come out in March 2017, it can be assumed that the 19th installment of the popular action-adventure game will be released in the months after that.

The gaming company also revealed through a press release that the next "The Legend of Zelda" game will be the highlight of Nintendo's presentation at this year's E3 conference in Los Angeles.

"The Wii U version of the game will be playable for the first time on the E3 show floor, and it will be the only playable game Nintendo presents at the show, in order to provide attendees a complete immersion. Additional information about Nintendo's E3 plans will be announced in the future," the company revealed.

More details about the release of the next "The Legend of Zelda" game will be revealed at the 2016 E3.
