The Legend of Korra season 4: What's ahead for the Avatar after book 3?

Legend of Korra books 1 to 3 Nickelodeon

Followers of the cartoon miniseries The Legend of Korra eagerly await the fourth book, especially after the rather uncertain and sad ending of Book 3. The Legend of Korra season 4 will have to answer the question of what's next for the Avatar after she had narrowly survived a sinister plot for her annihilation.

In an interview with Korra's voice actor Janet Varney, IGN's Roth Cornet asked, "Do you think that Korra's going to have to take a retreat from being the Avatar to find out what that even means to her?"

"I really couldn't say," Varney replied, laughing. Further, she said jokingly, "Also, we have to take a special 'amnesia pill' after we finish recording each season... so we can't spill the beans on anything."

In the final episode of Book 3 entitled, "Enter the Void/ Venom of the Red Lotus", Korra almost lost to Zaheer, the leader of the anarchist group Red Lotus, after his group infused a kind of metallic poison into her body. The poison was meant to force her to change into her Avatar form, after which they were going to kill her. Only by sheer determination and with help from her friends was she able to survive the ordeal. Had she died, it would have been the end of the Avatar's cycle of birth and rebirth.

Although she was reunited with her father, and Jinora was anointed as the newest airbender master, Korra seemed lost and distant sitting in her wheelchair. There is deep concern about her weakened state, especially since her protection is much needed – no one is certain of how many more Red Lotus members are out to cause chaos. The Air Nomads did promise to be of service to the world, just as Korra's example had shown.

Mako's voice actor David Faustino did say to IGN, "I would like to see Mako get back together with Korra."

Nickelodeon stopped airing the show on television in July this year, and instead opted to show episodes nine through 13 in its website. Fans of The Legend of Korra will have to wait for further announcements on when Book Four will start airing.
