'Tekken 7' release date news: may not have cross-platform gameplay; game to happen in February 2017?

Cross-platform gaming may not arrive in "Tekken 7," as game speculated to arrive by February 2017. Bandai Namco Entertainment

"Tekken 7" fans are highly anticipating that cross-platform gaming will arrive soon when the game is released early next year. This does not seem to be the case anymore, however, as the latest reports suggest.

According to a translation made by Flying Wonkey of a tweet by Katsuhiro Harada, project leader for "Tekken 7," the cross-platform feature planned for the seventh iteration of the game will not be implemented. It is technically possible, but Harada is afraid of the security risk involved in such a move.

"It's not a matter of the technology for getting the PS4/XB1/PC players to match up against each other being the issue, but rather first party company policies and potential security risks alongside the community perceived reputation of PC gamers being cheaters that is hindering the decision to allow cross platform play," the translation said.

The post further clarified that Harada is not saying that all PC gamers are cheaters or hackers. The whole gaming community believes that cheating happens more in PC than the other platforms. PC Gamer added that the project leader might also be referring to the mods and hacks that are more common on Windows-based computers.

It is worth mentioning that Harada is not denying the idea from the game, but players can expect that the cross-platform feature will not be available when "Tekken 7" launches. "Street Fighter V," another popular fighting game, allows PlayStation 4 and PC gamers get together in matches, so there is always the possibility. Bandai Namco, the game developer, would just have to think of a way to prevent cheating and hacking.

Meanwhile, in a previous report by Flying Wonkey, inside sources tipped off that the game will have a release date within last week of February next year. However, fans should take this with a grain of salt since Bandai Namco has issued no official word. It is also speculated that downloadable content may also be made available.

"Tekken 7" is expected to be released worldwide in February 2017 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC.
