"Switched at Birth" has already been confirmed to be renewed for another season and is set to return next year. Although there's no news on the exact release date yet, fans are already excited to know what happened after the cliffhanger finale back in season 4.

Karey Burke, executive vice president of ABC family's programming and development, said in her statement that she's excited about how "Switched at Birth" creator Lizzy Weiss will continue with the stories of each character in the show.

The previous season of the family drama series did not only bring a cliffhanger to all the viewers, but also a big surprise for all the fans.

Back in season 4, viewers got to see a ten-month time jump in the series. Core characters Daphne (Katie Leclerc) and Bay (Vanessa Marano) were supposedly staying in China for only six weeks for a getaway, but the show forwarded to 10 months, with Daphne working at a health clinic and Bay settling as a tattoo artist.

During the final moments of the finale, it was shown that Bay got an emergency call from her hometown. It would appear that the call she got would be the reason why the two of them will go back to Kansas, although no details about the call have been revealed.

The story is expected to continue from that emergency call and speculations start to form about what could be compelling enough to make the girls go back home.

Zap2It shared some of its speculations, which include Eric (Terrell Tilford) being found by the police after kidnapping Will (Sayeed Shahidi) and got Regina (Constance Marie) also involved.

The emergency call could also involve problems with Toby (Lucas Grabeel) and Lily's (Rachel Shenton) newborn son.

Meanwhile, "Switched at Birth" may have featured the end of Bay and Emmett's (Sean Berdy) relationship, but perhaps season five might see them back together.

Weiss was asked, during an interview with TV Line, if fans saw the end of the "Bemmett" shipping. Weiss said that although there are so many people rooting for the couple, some also accept that their time has come to an end, and Bay might be in better hands with Travis (Ryan Lane).

However, the series creator did hint that Emmett may have let go of Bay "for now," which could only mean that perhaps in the future, they'll cross paths once again.
