Despite the rumors that Bay (Vanessa Marano) and Daphne (Katie LeClerc) will face a major problem when they return home from China in "Switched at Birth" season 5, it seems like the girls will be in for a happy surprise.
Based on the trailer for the fifth and final season of Freeform's family drama, Bay and Daphne will be welcomed with happy news about their older brother, Toby (Lucas Grabeel) and the mother of his child, Lily (Rachel Shenton), who finally announced their engagement.
This could contradict early rumors claiming that the girls were called back home because Daphne's biological parents and Bay's legal parents Kathryn (Lea Thompson) and John (D.W. Moffett) will announce their divorce. But the marriage between Kathryn and John could still be in trouble even if it was not evident in the teaser.
Meanwhile, Daphne will soon face cyberbullying after she and boyfriend Mingo (Adam Hagenbuch) attended a party.
In the trailer, Daphne and Mingo decided to wear Lil Wayne costumes in the party that they attended. While they both think that their costume looks fun, one of the black girls in the party pointed out that their costumes are considered to be offensive to the black community. Daphne will also receive a lot of hate comments on social media after Daphne uploaded their photo.
Since season 5 will be the last, Marano told Just Jared Jr. back in March that the series will finally tie up the loose ends left during the past season.
"This entire season has a lot of returning story lines actually," the actress said in the interview. "We left a lot of loose ends open last season so now we're tying everything together. There's a lot of...it's very much like a new year because so much time has passed and the girls are at these new places in their lives," she added.
"Switched at Birth" season 5 is scheduled to premiere on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017, at 8 p.m. EDT on Freeform.
