Actor Jared Padalecki's tweets on Friday, May 15, caused his fans to become concerned after he announced that he would be unable to attend upcoming public appearances.
"Dear #JIBCON and #AHBL6. I am in desperate and urgent need of my family. I am sorry to tell you this but I must head home," he wrote.
After a few minutes, the "Supernatural" actor reached out to his fans and asked for their support during what seemed to be a difficult time in his life.
"I need all the love I can get right now. Please please give me a few seconds of your time and write me. #AlwaysKeepFighting."
On Sunday, May 17, Padalecki's manager issued a statement to Zap2It and revealed that the actor is suffering from exhaustion.
"Jared wanted everyone to know he loves meeting his fans around the world and was very upset at having to cancel his trips to Rome and Australia," said his manager to Zap2It. "Jared has pushed himself to his limits and is suffering from exhaustion. His SPN family is so important to him, and he asks that they Always Keep Fighting. At this time he needs to be home with his family."
The statement continued, "He's doing better already and is excited about shooting 'Supernatural' season 11 this July. For now, he's taking a break, but is so appreciative of his fans, and sees and feels their love and support."
Padalecki's tweets come months after his interview with Variety wherein he opened up about his struggles with depression.
"Maybe a lot of people don't know this, but season three [of Supernatural], we were shooting an episode, and I went back to my trailer to get changed and just kind of broke down," he told Variety in March. "A doctor came to me and talked to me for about 30 minutes or 45 minutes and said, 'Jared, I think you're clinically depressed. I think I should write you a note and we can shut down production for five days and then we can take it from there."
Since then, the actor has led a charitable effort to raise awareness of mental health issues. Padalecki also told Variety that he began to feel better after taking a break from filming.
"I say constantly that there's no shame in dealing with these things," he explained. "There's no shame in having to fight every day but fighting every day, and presumably, if you're still alive to hear these words or read this interview, then you are winning your war. You're here."
