Super Smash Bros 4 for Nintendo 3DS to launch Oct. 3 [Video]

Three years after it was first announced, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS will finally launch. The much-awaited game will roll out in North America and Europe on Oct. 3 and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will launch shortly after, during this year's holiday season.

The fourth and fifth installments of the famous Super Smash Bros. series will include various Nintendo characters, as featured in the game's official website. Avid game players will recognize Picachu, Donkey Kong, Mario and Luigi, Sonic, Kirby, Zelda, Wii Fit Trainer, among many others.

There is yet no official information on the Wii U version, but the company has already revealed some facts about the 3DS version. For instance, there will be several game modes, including Solo Classic and Solo Stadium. Players can further choose a game in Solo Stadium, namely Multi-Man Smash, Home-Run Contest, and the new Target Blast.

There is also Smash Run, exclusive to 3DS, which is a four-player battle game where players need to go through a labyrinth and collect boosts. There are equippable items as well as enemy characters and occasional events.

According to the website, "In addition to standard Smash matches, you can try Reflect Smash, where you automatically reflect all projectiles; High-Launch Smash, where every blow will send you flying; Climb!, where you see how high you can climb within the given time; and many other smash varieties."

Online Smash will also be available.

Players in Japan will be the first to enjoy the game when it rolls out on Sept. 13, while the Australian release is scheduled on Oct. 4.
