Netflix's "Stranger Things" became a huge hit last year, getting several nominations and awards, which is why it did not come as a surprise for everyone when the show got renewed for another season.
"Stranger Things" stars Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Noah Schnapp, and Caleb McLaughlin recently sat down with People Magazine and they talked about what the fans are going to expect in the highly anticipated second season of the Netflix original series.
Wolfhard, who plays Mike Wheeler, teased that season 2 will have a darker tone that fans are going to like. "There are going to be some challenges that the characters face that are real, that are disturbing," he said.
Season 1 focused on finding their friend, Schnapp's Will Byers, and the introduction of the Upside Down. While they did succeed at finding Will and taking him home, the show also hinted that he has changed since his friends last saw him, that the Upside Down did something sinister to the 12-year-old boy. In fact, the Upside Down had affected them all, albeit in different ways.
"The great thing about this season is you get to see insights into each character on their own. You're going to see a lot more into the lives of how the characters are coping with what's been going on," said Matarazzo, who plays Dustin Henderson. "I think they're all very emotionally scarred. They feel alone because their best friend [Will] is back and he's not acting like their best friend anymore. He's changed."
More importantly, the show's light-hearted vibe amid all the chaos in the first season might vanish when it returns this fall as it is said to lean more on the horror genre, according to Wolfhard. He said, "I think this season will be a lot more dark. A lot more horror oriented. I think people are going to like it more than the first season.
In other news, Brown, who plays Eleven, mentioned that the viewers will be seeing a couple of new faces in "Stranger Things" season 2. "American Odyssey" actress Sadie Sink and "Power Rangers" actor Dacre Montgomery have been added to the lineup. According to a report, Sink will be playing Max, a young girl with a complicated history, and Montgomery will be playing Billy, a Camaro-driving bad boy.
