'Star Wars Battlefront 2' release date news: EA reveals sequel heading for release in 2017

Star Wars Battlefront EA Games

Game developer and publisher Electronic Arts recently confirmed development of "Star Wars Battlefront 2." The company held its Q4 2016 earnings call and it mentioned its plans for the franchise.

Seeking Alpha posted the complete transcript of EA's earnings call that happened last Tuesday, May 10, where it mentioned that fans can expect a new "Star Wars Battlefront" game. It was also mentioned that since a new movie was already released, they could now use it in their upcoming game.

Blake J. Jorgensen, the company's CEO and EVP, said," We'll most likely have at least one 'Star Wars' title a year over the next three years to four years."

Jorgensen also said, "Next year we will see Star Wars Battlefront back with bigger and better worlds, because we now have the new movies to work off of, not just the historical movies that we used before. We also are working on a Star Wars action game that part of the Motive team is working on as well as the Visceral team. And that's most likely the following year."

The transcript also mentioned the plan for the game and that it will soon be joining the virtual reality bandwagon and the "Battlefront" game series will be ready for the PlayStation VR. The company will maximize their very own Frostbite game engine.

"Star Wars Battlefront" has also provided the company with adequate net cash. The said game was responsible for much of the US$398 million in the the fourth quarter, compared to the US$198 million during the same period last year.

Fans are now expecting that the next installment for the game will let them use the weapons and vehicles used in the last movie, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." There is also a bigger possibility now that fans will be able to see or use Kylo Ren, Poe Dameron, Rey and Finn in the upcoming game.

"Star Wars Battlefront 2" is highly speculated to be released during the holidays of next year.
