While fans are waiting for the release of the highly anticipated episodes of "Sherlock" season 4, Benedict Cumberbatch hinted that it might be the start of the end of the series.

The actor, who portrays the role of legendary detective, told GQ in an interview that the upcoming season feels like "the end of an era."

According to Cumberbatch, the events of season 4 will be hard to follow in an instant. "In the immediate future we all have things that we want to crack on with and we've made something very complete as it is, so I think we'll just wait and see," the actor stated.

However, Cumberbatch revealed that he will always want to reprise his role in the series in the future. "The idea of never playing him again is really galling," he added.

Cumberbatch was not the only one who hinted at the end of "Sherlock" after season 4. In a press release from series creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss that was published by Newsweek, it was revealed that the modern interpretation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's detective stories is "about to reach its climax" in the upcoming season.

At the moment, BBC One has yet to announce if they will order a fifth season of "Sherlock" after the end of season 4.

While waiting for further announcements, fans of the series were treated with a new piece information about "Sherlock" season 4 episodes during the Sherlocked UK fan event in late September where the titles for the first two episodes of the season had been announced.

The first one will be called "The Six Thatchers." On the other hand, the second episode will be called "The Lying Detective." However, the plot of each of the said episodes is still kept under wraps.

"Sherlock" season 4 is slated to premiere in January 2017.
